ETA-IL requirements, eligibility and validity
Review who needs ETA-IL, passport and upload rules, permitted travel, validity, processing and entry conditions.
What is ETA-IL?
ETA-IL is Israel’s electronic travel authorization for eligible visa-exempt visitors. It has been mandatory for eligible travellers since 1 January 2025 and is linked to the passport used in the application.
Who needs ETA-IL?
Eligible visa-exempt travellers need authorization before travelling, including infants and children. Each traveller must have a separate authorization and application.
Who may be exempt?
Exemptions can apply to Israeli citizens or Israeli identity-number holders, travellers holding a valid Israeli visa, diplomats travelling on an official mission, seamen, airline crew and travellers remaining airside during an unscheduled stop. Eligibility depends on the passport and circumstances.
Eligible passports
Eligibility is assessed using the travel-document type, passport country, nationality and biometric status. Moldovan citizens qualify with a biometric passport; a non-biometric Moldovan passport normally requires a visitor visa. Special nationality and document rules can apply.
Permitted travel
ETA-IL is intended for short visits such as tourism and business. Journalism is a distinct travel purpose. It does not authorise employment or long-term study.
Validity and entries
An approved ETA-IL is normally valid for multiple entries for up to two years or until the linked passport expires, whichever comes first.
Maximum stay
A visit is normally limited to 90 days. Travellers must comply with the period authorised at the border and any conditions applying to their trip.
Passport requirements
Use the passport intended for travel. It should remain valid for at least 90 days from the relevant travel date. A new passport, or a change to key identity details, requires a new ETA-IL application.
Required document
Upload the complete passport biographical page, including the machine-readable zone. A clear PNG, JPG or JPEG image is suitable. A separate portrait photograph is not requested in this application.
Information requested
The application records the main purpose of travel, planned arrival and stay, passport type and number, passport country, nationality, biometric status, names, birth date, email and relevant additional citizenship or status details.
Additional citizenship and status
Additional citizenship must be disclosed when relevant. A Palestinian identity number is requested only where that status applies. Israeli citizens or identity-number holders ordinarily do not need ETA-IL, although temporary travel-document arrangements may change.
Processing time
A response is normally provided within 72 hours. Apply at least 72 hours before travel and allow additional time before making non-refundable arrangements.
Children
Every child, including an infant, needs a separate ETA-IL linked to the passport used for travel.
Corrections and new applications
Details can be checked and corrected before submission. Once submitted, information generally cannot be amended; a new application is needed for material corrections, a new passport, or changes to name, gender or citizenship.
Decision and entry
A refusal notice normally explains the available next steps.
